Roger was most recently Shelter’s Director of Communications, Policy and Campaigns, leading a division of over 80 staff in teams covering campaigns, research, policy, public affairs, media, brand, marketing, internal comms, creative and digital. In his time at Shelter, he designed and led a pioneering campaign using advanced audience targeting and innovative comms to make housing a top issue at the 2015 election, the issue having been absent from the 2010 race. The campaign was cited by Third Sector magazine’s award judges in their decision to shortlist Shelter for Britain’s Most Admired Charity of 2015.
He also led successful campaigns to secure an end to Letting Agent fees for tenants, a ban on ‘Revenge’ evictions and a number of changes to welfare reforms. Furthermore, he started a programme of work to understand why public trust in the welfare system is low and pilot innovative and integrated new approaches to campaigning, communications and policy work to turn this around. He has previously worked at the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and for Cicero Consulting.
